Many teens think of getting braces as an intimidating experience, but it is really not so scary. These days, types of braces vary by materials, styles, and colors. Braces for teens are also extremely common. You probably even know some people from school who have them. Furthermore, today’s braces usually are not worn for as long as those from your parents’ teen years. Premier dental and Orthodontic center offers several styles of braces for teens.
How long you will need to wear your dental braces is based on three factors:
At Premier Dental and Orthodontic center, we offer several different kinds of braces for teens.
They can choose from these options to best suit their personal style and needs. Some of the most common choices include:
While it may be difficult to believe during the process, having braces will actually improve the appearance of your smile. Your smile is your most obvious feature and often the first thing people notice about you. When you look in the mirror, are you happy with your current smile? If not, braces will change that. A better-looking smile can improve your social life and your self-confidence.
Most importantly, getting dental braces improves functionality when speaking and chewing. Having correct teeth alignment also prevents more serious dental issues. When teeth shifting occurs, it becomes more challenging to reach in between the teeth for preventative care. Without getting those hard to reach spots around the teeth and gums, periodontal disease is more likely to happen.
The first days of braces can be the most challenging for some. Braces for teens can come with a few complications to your lifestyle, such as having to avoid certain foods and spending a little more time on your oral care routine. However, most teens find that these issues are minor and braces don’t really alter other areas of their lives. You can still play instruments, participate in sports, sing, and speak clearly. You can even use special-colored elastic bands on your braces if you want to make a fashion statement. The chances are good that once people see you with braces, they will not even think anything of it. It is important to note, however, that you will need to wear a mouth guard while engaging in any sports.
While there are a few specific problems requiring braces, many cases can now be treated by clear aligners. Please schedule consultation to see if you are a good candidate and to discuss all of your options.
It’s a common assumption that braces are only for teenagers. However, regardless of your age, it’s always possible to restore your smile and improve your dental health. For a variety of reasons, many adults were unable to correct problems during their childhood. These issues can include overbites, misaligned jaws, crowded teeth, underbites, jaw joint disorders, and crooked teeth. Over the years, if these issues are left untreated, they can progress towards more serious issues. These can include gum disease, serious tooth decay, chronic headaches, ear pain, as well as problems with speaking, biting, and chewing. Adult braces can give these individuals the help they need to correct these problems and protect their oral health in the future.
Other reasons that adults may benefit from orthodontic treatment:
While metal braces were more traditional in the past, adults can now benefit from advanced orthodontics that are comfortable, nearly invisible, and customized to their unique needs.
Premier Dental and Orthodontic center now offers adults a variety of advanced braces to match your lifestyle, including:
There are many reasons adults choose to address misaligned teeth. These are mainly for cosmetic or functional reasons. Our teeth play an important role in our social lives as well as chewing our food. Take a look at the following reasons to correct crooked teeth:
There are also reasons for teeth to shift as an adult that need to be addressed. Those with late wisdom teeth eruptions commonly experience teeth shifting. Other dental issues may result from car accidents or other events causing dental trauma.

No different than teenagers, adults can benefit from a more beautiful smile and improved oral health from wearing dental braces. But because adult mouths are no longer growing, orthodontic treatment may take slightly longer than for teens. Most of our adult clients require wearing braces for about a year and a half to three years.
Once we remove your adult braces, you’ll need to continue to wear a retainer. This will work to preserve all of the benefits of your newly straightened teeth.
Orthodontic appliances such as braces are routinely used to straighten teeth. But traditional braces have their own challenges, namely, they are noticeable and often quite uncomfortable to wear.
Damon braces can not only be virtually transparent, they’re also more comfortable to wear.
Damon braces are modern alternatives to traditional braces. They consist of a self-ligating system which uses high tech wires as well as tieless brackets. These use a clip for holding an archwire inside the bracket. It means that instead of attaching the arch wire to brackets with elastic ligatures, brackets themselves contain a component which closes around the wire to keep it attached.
The Damon System is self ligating. It works by using wires and a bracket instead of O-rings or ligatures. This makes it easy to change the braces. Also, you will not experience the same pressure on your teeth associated with wearing metal braces.
Unlike traditional braces, Damon braces don’t use elastic ties for binding the brackets onto the arch wire, something that makes cleaning hard. Instead, they are tieless which makes them easier to clean. There is also a substantial reduction in the friction so you will experience considerably less discomfort compared to traditional braces.
Apart from being more comfortable to wear, the Damon Clear system is also much less noticeable. You’ll feel less self conscious and be able to smile more naturally for the entire course of treatment.
Through light, continuous force, Damon braces let the memory-shaped wires move easily within the brackets. Most orthodontists prefer using Damon Braces because they can move teeth faster into the correct position.
OTHER ADVANTAGES OF DAMON BRACES OVER TRADITIONAL BRACES
In all fairness, traditional braces have witnessed some improvements in the last 20 years. Today, they are made with lighter and stronger materials.
However, they differ from Damon Braces in that they use elastic ties to position the wire in the brace. For this reason, traditional wires can become quite uncomfortable as a result of the friction between the ties, wires and brackets. They’re also bulky and can require more thorough cleaning and maintenance. If you want something that has a more comfortable fit, and produces accurate and efficient results, the Damon system is usually an excellent choice.
Braces are an orthodontic treatment that consists of customizable brackets. We attach these to the teeth and connect them by a thin metal guide wire. These are held in place with special rubber elastics. Every month or so, you’ll return to our office. This is so that our orthodontist can continue to make adjustments to the brackets. Our brackets are either resistant ceramic materials or high-quality stainless steel.
Millions of people in the world suffer from oral health issues that can be resolved with orthodontic treatment. If left untreated, dental problems can develop into serious issues. These can include chronic gum disease, the destruction of bones, TMJ issues, severe tooth decay, and even tooth loss. To determine if you or your child need braces, reach out to Premier dental and Orthodontic center.
Depending on each person’s unique needs, braces are worn from approximately one to three years. Every patient is different, and how long braces must be worn may change depending on how the treatment progresses.
The simple answer is no, as braces are designed to minimize discomfort. Some people do report experiencing a bit of discomfort and soreness in the first few days after braces are applied as their mouths adjust to the change. Throughout the course of your treatment, adjustments will be made to continue to guide your progress and it is normal to experience a few aches or twinges after an adjustment. We recommend using an over-the-counter pain medication to help reduce any soreness or discomfort you might experience.
There is no one specific age that is best to begin wearing braces, but both Dr. Siva and the American Association of Orthodontists recommend that children should receive an orthodontic evaluation when they are seven years old. Dr. Siva is able to improve smiles and resolve crooked teeth issues at any age, but an early diagnosis has a lot of benefits. When a child receives a full orthodontic evaluation at around age seven, Dr. Siva will be able to diagnose and evaluate any potential problems and identify the best course of action to treat them.
When orthodontic issues are neglected or treatment is postponed, this can lead to severe tooth decay, chronic gum disease, the destruction of bone, TMJ problems, and even the loss of teeth.
Simply put, straight teeth are healthier teeth. Once your teeth and jaw are in proper alignment, they will begin to function better. The end goal of a successful orthodontic treatment is to give you a more beautiful smile and prevent dental health issues. Also, a corrected bite works much better. For many people who require braces, eating can be a difficult and unpleasant experience. By undergoing orthodontic treatment, your bite will be corrected as well as your smile, making biting, eating, and chewing food easier and more pleasant. When you are happy with your smile, you will experience greater self-confidence and receive a huge boost to your self-esteem, regardless of your age.
Most definitely. Athletes of all ages can play sports while wearing braces, but our orthodontist recommends that you wear a mouth guard both to protect your mouth as well as your orthodontics. Our experienced staff can help you choose the right mouth guard for your sports activity to properly protect your smile and braces.
Dr. Siva recommends that patients with braces should generally avoid eating very sticky foods, such as taffy, caramel, or chewing gum. In addition, some foods such as popcorn, as well as tough foods like raw carrots and whole apples, can potentially dislodge brackets or damage the guide wire of your braces. You can safely eat apples once you cut them into smaller pieces. Once the process is over, our staff will give you an informational pamphlet containing all the foods you should avoid during the course of your treatment.
It rarely happens, but should your braces or other components of your orthodontics break, please contact our office immediately. Also, if you experience any severe pain or discomfort, report to Premier Dental and Orthodontic center at +6738369009.
